Licensed Producer is the name given by Health Canada to the companies that have applied for and been granted license to grow medical marijuana for Canadian patients under Health Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR).
Licensed producers (often referred to as LPs) are the only entities legally allowed to produce and sell medical marijuana in Canada. LPs have gone through a rigorous application process to get licensed, and are held to some of the strictest marijuana production and testing standards in the world.
Licensed producers are spread out across Canada, and they run the gamut from small ‘mom & pop’ growers to large commercial entities with state-of-the-art facilities that trade on the stock market.
